Double Hill Station offers a unique New Zealand high country experience with 4 star farm lodge accommodation and alpine helicopter scenic flights. Join us in the South Island high country, heart of New Zealand’s Southern Alps
Our high country lodge on our sheep and cattle station, near Methven, provides comfortable relaxed accommodation, a New Zealand farm experience, New Zealand hunting and fishing opportunities and a range of scenic alpine helicopter flights into beautiful New Zealand national parks and the Southern Alps.
Pricing:
4 night stay $NZ 700.00 for 2, 3 or 4 persons, $100.00 for additional persons up to 2 extra; in total 6 persons.
7 night stay $1,000.00 for 2, 3 or 4 persons, $100.00 for additional persons up to 2 extra; total 6 persons.
Price includes accommodation in a 4 bedroom self contained house that accommodates 6 people luxuriously. Onsite catering may be arranged through the contact below. Closest restaurant is Mt Hutt Lodge. You are more than welcome to cater for yourself if that is your preference.

HOW TO GET THERE

The Station is approx. 130 kms from Christchurch and an ALL WHEEL DRIVE vehicle is recommended, as there is approximately 30 kms of unsealed road.
Take State Highway 73 west as if going to Arthurs Pass. Follow the road through Yaldhurst, West Melton and Kirwee to Darfield. As you leave Darfield, a sign points to Mount Hutt, Route 72/77, the Inland Scenic Route. Follow this road for 46kms until you approach the 2 bridges crossing the Rakaia River. Cross the bridges and drive approx. 3.5 kms up the step hill until you reach BLACKFORD RD. Turn right onto Blackford Road and follow this road to Double Hill Station, approx. 40 minutes drive on sealed and then unsealed road. Anna and Tim Hutchinson will be at the Station to greet you and show you to your accommodation.
Alternative access to Double Hill Station. Arrange for Tim to pick you up in the helicopter from the Mount Hutt Lodge (you can park at the Lodge for the week.) The Mount Hutt Lodge is at the 2 bridges at the Rakaia Gorge – check details on www.mthuttlodge.co.nz

Restaurants: Mount Hutt Lodge, across the 2 bridges at the Rakaia Gorge, approx. 48kms. Methven, approx. 60kms., has restaurants and hotels, i-site, medical, pharmacy, grocery stores, fuel/service station, hairdresser, shops.

DOUBLE HILL STATION offers a unique holiday experience. It is located in a remote area of the Canterbury hills and mountains; it is where the Mathais and Wilberforce Rivers flow into the mighty Rakaia River, one of the few braided rivers, where salmon and trout are a fisherman’s delight. The scenery in the area is wild, rugged, majestic and beautiful. One can enjoy the luxury of living in comfort in this remote location, relaxing, getting involved with the farming side of the Station, walking (or tramping as it is called in NZ), spoiling oneself with helicopter scenic flights or part-taking in one or more of the sporting activities of the area. This is a very different and unique experience for anyone looking for a holiday with a difference.

Main lodge has 4 bedrooms and 2 separate bathrooms.
Bedroom 1 has 1 superking bed that can be split into 2 king singles. Bedroom 2 has 2 king singles. Bedroom 3 has 2 king singles. Bedroom 4 has 1 superking that can be split into 2 king singles.
Studio unit has 1 superking bed and an ensuite. Bed can not be split into king singles. No cooking facilities in studio unit, sleeping only. Studio unit is detached from the main rental building.
LAUNDRY
1 washing machine. No dryer but access to dryer in the homestead. Large outside drying line beside lodge.
